Precious Memories - Page 26

Another time, we were riding along in the wee hours of the morning and our children were asleep in the back of the station wagon. I was holding the baby in my lap and George Jr. was probably about ten years old and Cynthia was around eight at this time. They had traveled so much until they would stretch out and go to sleep when night came. George would continually drive through the night to get to our next stop. That night, everything was real quiet in the car and I was nodding, half asleep from weariness, when George Jr. began to try to climb over to get up front. I smacked his leg, but didn’t get any response. Then I realized something was wrong. George pulled over to a roadside park and got him and Cindy outside and they just wilted. They were both real blue. We realized that they had been overcome by fumes coming from the exhaust. If the Lord had not prepared George Jr.’s heart to stir from his sleep, no doubt both of them would have died in their sleep without us even being aware anything was wrong. Another great miracle of God! By keeping our faith and trust in Him, He was always there when we needed Him!

Even though we had many battles in our young Christian walk, we put our trust and confidence in God and His precious Word, and He flooded our lives with peace, health, and happiness.

All things work together for good to those that love the Lord and those that are the called according to His purpose. The calling of God was on George’s life, and many times we were misunderstood, but the Lord taught us day by day, and we learned that opposition only proved to be stepping stones in our growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord.

Experience proved to be a great teacher. We kept our children with us at all times. It is hard for me to understand the young mothers of our day. Their children seem to be a burden to them and they are always looking for someone to baby-sit them. No wonder they grow up to act like heathens. They leave them with anyone that will keep them. The Bible teaches us to train up a child in the way we would have them to go, and when they are old, they won’t depart from this teaching. Even though our eight children are grown and married now, I can truly say they weren’t a burden to me. They were my life and love, and though I realize I failed in so many ways trying to teach them, I know that they still have the Word of God in their hearts and no matter where they go and what they do, they can’t get away from it. I’m praying continually that the Lord Jesus will grant real godly repentance unto them so we can spend eternity together.
