1. I told the Lord that I’d do His will,

If one more time, His Spirit I could feel,

Though I’ve stumbled along I asked God for a light,

So that I won’t be lost in the darkness of night,

I’ve been a praying, I’ve been a praying.

2. The world passes me by, and they say things ain’t right,

But friend I don’t care, my Lord’s holding me tight,

I’m happy with Him, my world is so bright,

So let the crowd go their way, I’ll just walk in the light,

I’ll just go on praying, I’ll just go on praying.

3. Oh, where were you, when the gang met last night,

We had so much fun, but things wasn’t right,

We missed you so, you’re such a sight,

But they didn’t know that I’d been a praying,

They didn’t know that I’d been a praying.

Chorus:

I ask the Lord to save my soul,

I ask the Lord to wash and make me whole,

I promised the Lord, that I’d do what was right,

That’s the reason my friend, I wasn’t with you last night,

I’ve been a praying, I’ve been a praying.
