Having a clean mind and watching our thoughts plays a big part in having faith. The Bible speaks of “men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning faith.” The Bible also teaches us to serve the Lord with all humility of mind, and the Apostle Paul said, “I serve God with my mind.” So, we must have a clean mind to serve God – a mind without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. A clean mind means clean thoughts, and clean thoughts result in great faith because our conscience or mind is void of offense towards man and God. When our conscience is clear, there is nothing that can stand in the way of our petitions when we pray.
So, we have got to keep a clean mind by watching our thoughts if we want to serve God and have faith in God. The Bible commands us to “cast down imaginations (thoughts), and every high thing that exalts itself against the Word of God.” What is a high thing that exalts itself against the Word of God? It is a thought that is contrary to the Word of God.
It’s not hard to discern the difference between a bad thought and a good thought. People are often fooled in thinking it’s hard, but it is really quite easy. The thoughts that the Bible commands us to cast down, which are vain and evil, are the thoughts that come to you and cause you to feel bitter, angry, envious, lustful, and proud. We ought not to sit back in our bunks thinking about how we can make the judge or district attorney suffer for giving us time, or how much we hate our ex-wife or ex-husband for doing us wrong, or how people around us get visits and make store and we don’t seem to get anything at all. Thoughts such as these must be cast out of our minds.
The Bible says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” The Bible doesn’t say to pick up a Maxim magazine and think on it. It says to cast those thoughts down. Why? Because our faith becomes greatly affected when we entertain unholy and ungodly thoughts. Paul said to keep our minds stayed on Christ Jesus and then we would have perfect peace, which is perfect faith. Shouldn’t we be using these times to pray and fast and get closer to God? This is what you want anyway, or you wouldn’t be reading this tract.
If you will stop and think about it, behind every action is a thought. Everything we do depends on our thinking. How can we walk with Christ in faith and live a life of holiness when we are allowing evil thoughts to pass through our mind? Faith is too precious and a major necessity to just let any old thought come in and ruin it. People often buy the security system ADT to protect their homes, the valuables in their homes and their family. We need to have an Affect Detection of our Thoughts (ADT) to protect our faith. The Bible tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. If we have the Holy Ghost dwelling within our temple, which is by faith, then we have something very valuable dwelling within our house that needs protecting, and ADT is a great way to start protecting our most important asset – FAITH!
We have to constantly keep watch on our thoughts! An evil thought can come in any shape and size and we’ve got to be prepared to protect our faith. We have got to be willing to check every thought that comes into our mind and be willing to put evil thoughts out, especially those that are religious on the surface, but full of the devil deep down as to motive and intent. If we don’t, we will end up robbed of our faith and left in a ditch of fear and despair.
Don’t get frustrated if you let an evil thought slip in while you weren’t paying attention. As soon as you catch it, cast it out. Don’t entertain it. The blood of Jesus atones for that; but, if an evil thought comes in and you recognize it and entertain it anyway, then it is a willful act and the blood of Jesus does not atone for your willful sinful thoughts. There is no more grace in that case, because now the thought is willful instead of accidental, and your faith will take a big hit, and you will reap every willful thought of sin.
So, keep a watch always, serve God with your mind, and watch how great your faith will soar. God bless you.
